Sinus Augmentation

Sinus Augmentation

If you are interested in dental implants for your posterior teeth it is good to understand that there can be limitations on the amount of bone some people have in that area of the moth. Some people have sinuses that are very low, leaving only a very narrow strip of bone that is too thin for proper implant placement. Fortunately, procedures have been developed to augment the bone in the sinus area, allowing for successful dental implants.

The procedure is highly successful, predictable and relatively simple to do. The technique involves a type of replacement of the sinus floor with new bone growth generated through bone grafting. Technological processes promoting rapid bone growth will add your own bone in needed areas for dental implant stabilization.

In some patients it is possible to move the sinus floor up in order to create the space needed for implants. This is the case when a patient has what can be defined as a “dropped” sinus floor. Once the floor has been gently lifted to create the needed space a bone replacement material is then placed into the newly lifted underneath space for permanent stability. Over time the artificial bone replacement material will be replaced by your own both growth.

The good news is that these types of sinus augmentation procedures are well researched with a very high success rate of more than 95 percent. The way it works is that the procedure required for sinus augmentation is performed and then time for healing is allotted. The healing process can take anywhere from 6 to 10 months. Once healing is complete implants are firmly implanted with lifelong stability and confidence. It is imperative to generate enough bone growth to support the implant.
